Srikanth also singled out India's singles coach Mulyo Handoyo, of Indonesia, for his success and forhelping him and other Indian players perform at a higher level. Handoyo, who coached Taufik Hidayat to an Olympic gold, was roped in earlier this year to ease the workload of national coach Pullela Gopichand.

Ever since Handoyo's appointment, the performance of the singles players, especially the men, has improved sharply.

"Everyone is doing well and the amount of training we have been doing since the new coach has joined is really helping us. We really want to be more consistent as a group in the coming tournaments," Srikanth said.

The Guntur-lad though remains eternally indebted to Pullela Gopichand for his success at the highest level. Gopichand has been responsible for the rise of the likes of Srikanth, PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal. Srikanth said that it was the former All England champion's belief that kept him going in difficult times.

Look back at Super Series 3-4 years ago and you’ll repeatedly see Lin Dan, Lee Chong Wei or Chen Long won 4-6 super series in one year . In fact Srikanth is only the 4th men’s player to win at least 4 super series in one year, after the three mentioned above.

The fact is that except for Lin Dan who’s old, and Chen Long, who’s lost form, they don’t have their former bench strength . WS is even more dire - they have two youngsters who are yet to win anything this season . They just happen to suck now.

This season India has 7 singles titles - 5 men’s (4 Srikanth , 1 Sai Praneeth) and 2 women’s (both Sindhu) . China has a total of... 1 (Lin Dan won I think Malaysia Open) . In the past it was the other way around - multiple Chinese players would win titles all year while we would trumpet one or two.

Of the 11 titles this year for China, 6 are in Mixed Doubles, 4 more in MD/WD and one singles title mentioned above . Same story for Indonesia - 8 doubles and 1 singles . India has the most singles titles this year .

older players do that to prolong their career as injuries take a toll. like MSD does not play tests these days. though not active in circuit he probably practises on his own back home with adequate rest periods...he is known as a rebel and not keen to follow anyones diktats. bad news for china is there is nobody young coming up remotely as good as him. he remains their best, perhaps their best ever.

on womens side unfortunately we lack anyone to back up Sindhu, with Saina nearing end of her career. Saina will always be a honoured person as someone who opened the gates and made the nation believe we could compete with and defeat the best.

in a nation cowed down with harsh defeats on all fronts, and constantly told by fakenews historians and leftist activists and BIF that we are weak and useless , it is important to have such people who defiantly stand up and say 'we can do it'

What has happened to Chinese in Badminton? Have they stopped paying attention to it?
The china brigade generally stay low in the series of lesser prominence but put up their best efforts in World Champioship, Olympics, Asiad etc..

Lin Dan would stay out through out the year and suddenly appear unseeded in World Championship and beat the likes of LCW mostly.

But I tend to agree that the China glory is fading with LD on the verge of retirement and Chen Long lacks consistency. In the last 2-3 series, he had been eliminated in the initial rounds itself by the opponents whom Kidambi had been mauling these days.
