Shravan, you need to add the url www.bharatganrajya.com also to the certificate. Right now only bharatganrajya.com is there in the certificate. That is what the error message tells me.

I get the same error as tanaji - bad certificate error for www.bharatganrajya.com. It works only if I drop the www. part

Question to the webmasters:

Is this new domain submitted for indexing on search engines such as google, bing, yahoo etc?
if we want to avoid random folks such as SJW's etc landing up here through some search link, better not to index it at all.

Is there really a bug or still some ghost members are visiting? If I were you, I will delete the account and recreate with a different email.

Are the user emails/passwords stored in encrypted/salted+encrypted format by default, and data secure? I don't think anyone stores it in plain text anymore, but just wanted to make sure, given the hacking attempts that happen, especially if perceived to be a RW forum.

We use whatever phpBB have. Nothing special is done. We do not intend to do anything extra as well.

If you could research the strength of security of phpBB and post here, you are welcome to do so. Many of us have academic interest in the subject.

It is always better to assume that the information used at a web forum can be easily compromised. Hey!! Bank and credit card information gets compromised in this world. So, the advice is to use a separate e-mail and password for the forum.

Can't I change my name just like in BRF and only a mod can do that?

If threads are being blocked here too then what is the point of starting a new forum ?

Couldn't manage BRF and now screwing this place too ?

US cases on cyber libel in message boards and forums

http://www.dba-oracle.com/internet_cybe ... forums.htm

By attempting to exercise such editorial control over the content of its bulletin boards, (even though such attempts were by no means comprehensive or covering all messages posted to bulletin boards), the court held that Prodigy was subject to liability as a publisher, rather than a distributor.

Does this imply that less or no moderation is a better option and defense against any possible libel claims ( the forum is a distributor and not a publisher )

Anyway these are US cases , need to check Indian laws as well

One more aspect - that of forum mods and owners themselves getting involved in the mudslinging would be open to libel action

https://www.socalinternetlawyer.com/def ... et-forums/

Same example, but let’s tweak it a bit. In this scenario, the moderator reads the thread with the defamatory comments. He refers the issue to the owner of the forum, the inevitable “Bob Smith.” Bob is politically active and jumps into the fight. Before you know it, Bob is slinging mud. At this point, the forum is no longer a passive platform. The owner is actively engaging in the argument. A court is likely to rule the Section 230 protections are no longer in place, which means the forum will be a defendant in the libel lawsuit.

A good option in this case for moderator to make a bura account and post using that.

Do we have a lawyer with us? We need some one to tell us when are we crossing the border line, cyber crime is tricky issue.
We fear to discuss some thing here which is being blown on twitter & FB , how is that possible? Do blogging/forum sites have diff rules on them than SM ?

the difference is - you can only go after individuals in the case of FB, Twitter etc. The platform owners are well protected individually and can take whatever even a govt entity can throw at them.

here, the platform owners (forum admins, mods) have no protection and can be harassed.

For those worried about password etc, phpBB provides adequate level of security.

https://www.phpbb.com/about/features/#passhash

We should probably move such things to an FAQ page or thread.

need to have quick post editor at the bottom of each page. Very handy instead of opening full editor.
