BJP core aim is to remain in power. When 2002 riots took place, Modi was not powerful enough to stop RW running amok. Thereafter he broke the back of RW in Gujarat. Similarly he has broken the back of right wing in rest of India. The main plank on which elections will be fought in 2019 would be subsidies and unemployment Dole given to poor voters. BJP knows that it will not get minority votes, but it is hoping that its allies will get some minority votes and it will slowly move into centre stage in next 10-15 years. In the meanwhile Hindu voters will be given an Illusion of hindutva while their tax money will be used to fund minority schemes.

The dismal voting percentage in Bangalore is my worry. BJP will lose a lot of urban seats if their middle class voters don't come out to vote. BJP needs to find new ways to get them to vote. Also, what's happening with NRI being able to vote from overseas ? Surely, that should be one of BJP target for 2019.

Common guys. 72-73% voting is not bad. Rural KT did come out in numbers which will make significant difference. Check Dr GP tweets, BJP will comfortably get majority.

Isn't the conventional wisdom that rural votes go to Congress? Especially in KT, the rural folk are pleases with Siddhu's welfare schemes and have not been touched as much by Modi's schemes, right?

Free houses, gas connections, toilets, increased pension, crop insurance, health insurance, 24/7 electricity. Why won't rural people be touched by these? What are Siddaramiah's schemes anyway?

Awright dawgs, just a few hourz to go.

FWIW, this bellwether seat (went to the winning side last 12 VS elections of KA) has a strong BJP lead according to Braveen Badil:

Karnataka is gone.

Dr. Praveen Patil predicts 91 seats to Bhajpa. 103 at the very maximum if ALL swing districts go their way. Which they won't.

Urban areas, especially Bangalore, saw a pathetic turnout of voters. Rural areas, where people were motivated to support Congress by Siddaramaiah's giveaways, showed far better turnout. Muslim-dominated constituencies featured 86-90% turnout! So the "overall 73%" turnout combined with horribly low voting in the cities spells certain doom.

The state will see a Congress govt propped up by JDS.

Postal ballots according to Times Now show Congress 17, BJP 4, JDS 3

Apparently usually the postal ballots go the way of BJP so this is troubling.

RudraJI, I would discount that, they are all postal ballots and very few according to one expert on republic and he said this before counting began.

BJP 50, Cong 48, JDS 14

JDS doing much better than I thought they would.

How can 113 of the total 222 results be out already, or is this just a trend?

All the intellectual masturbation on TV is based on the trends. The final results would only start coming in by noon hours. The ECI web site generally is slow, but gets the official results.

Everything is different on different channels.

Times Now: Cong 61, BJP 47, JDS 16

These are leads so far, I don't think any definite results have been announced. Still, worrisome for BJP. I don't care if there is a clear mandate for BJP or not, but I don't want Congress to beat them. Wishful thinking perhaps.

Some might are postal ballots according to NDTV
NDTV is showing 53 to cong, 45 to BJP. Cong is pulling ahead. But even NDTV may be showing postal ballots.

The first round is only 18 leads so far. So hold on to your horses.
