The GDF shutdown - is definitely a result of what ramana posted on 14 Sep 2017
Reason why I am forced to intervene is some SJW scholar types have visited this forum and have gone through some of the threads (L&M in particular) and made complaints about misogynistic and such other attitudes of posters by name.
And these were escalated way beyond mere admins.

So either control yourself or we will have to shut down GDF.
The problem is - not just banning the offender...but deleting the posts from database (if insisted by the complainer). that is a very taxing operation.

and would lead to more disruptions and probably lets it open for the complainer to go after the individual poster.

so, the decision to close the entire gdf was to keep this complainer, whoever it is, from pursuing further.

It is easy to tell somebody else to fight, especially in the comfort of anonymity and as a group, but when it comes to legal issues that target individuals, many will back off.

so, go easy on the mods. They tried other options (recruiting more mod, recall messages posted for some users to check their PMs). Some mods had to drop off, either to protect themselves, or that they could not go with this decision and dissented.

Anyways, the bigger lesson is to be more responsible and accountable for what we post. Keep it clean and follow basic rules of no name calling, not calling for violence even in vague ways, no libel and always provide proof or use "alleged" type language, no code words for entire groups, no collective punishment, no misogynist language etc etc etc..

What is SJW and L & M?

If this is the issue, make GDF login only forum and not viewable for non registered lurkers.

So, just landed. :D

I think that L&M thread is an excuse. It was an indirect advice by Ramana to self moderate.
L&M is too irrelevant a topic to warrant a forum shutdown. Though of course, my personal opinion is that L&M thread has no place in a forum that discusses nationalistic issues.

The real threads were the ones dealing with Media/NGO, political situation and the behavior of the judiciary. The proof, if L&M were really the issue, is whether these threads get moved to STRATFOR or not.

A sobering thought. Indic RW is so fragile that any Tom, Dick and Harry with an agenda can barge in and can ask us to cease what we write, publish, think and discuss among ourselves.

Could be anybody and does not be even need to be political. There are plenty of folks who can cause severe damage by slapping cases or going public and blaming mods for content. I am just guessing here. I don't have any more info than what I posted.

Amogh- gdf was already a login only forum aka burqa forum.

If there indeed was a threat of legal action or otherwise, i can assure you shutting down GDF wont make it go away. They will target other parts of the forum next.I have faced this.

If GDF was login only they it shouldnot be too difficult to find out who this SJW was. He has tasted blood and it will attack BRF now. Others may find it amusing but there is a sustained effort to muzzle the kinds of opinion BRF generates, thats is nationalistic.

Thanks for starting this. I really missed the discussions in the Media/NGO and Politics threads.
Hopefully, over time, we have the same level of discussions and info sharing here.

I would be glad to make a monetary contribution, if required.

In respect of the rules of posting, it would be better if we control ourselves here. Self-control never hurt anyone. Until we know the real reason or the problems leading to the closure of the GDF it would be better for us to be careful. I think there is some serious reason and therefore we have to be careful.

There are two legal areas wherein problems may come as per my knowledge. IPC which was quoted in GDF closure thread also and IT act. Let us wait for some time. Where are the servers located? US or India. If there are in the US then you have 1st amendment right. In India, the right to expression can be reasonably restricted and therefore posts are to be carefully posted here. I can not suggest self-regulatory guidelines to escape IPC and IT law provisions. Nowadays almost on everything criminal cases can be filed.

I suggest is some sort of Mod system here also. Handing over bans and removing posts shall also be there. This shall not be a free for all thing.

Also, have open and Burkha threads in the same manner of brf here also. Let us not available on google etc in respect of GDF type threads here also.

There will be people who may join only to create problems for the host of the site and other posters. Do not rule it out now. We need to be careful. Since we are at the start of this site there may not be any immediate danger of such people joining in. But they do come at some point of time soon. So let us register future numbers only with non-free email ids or in exceptional cases when one or two numbers recommendation.

There was no specific reason given for the shutdown. It was likely the culmination of many things that pushed the owners of BRF to shut GDF down. Basically it was too much hassle to moderate with complainers, like SJW, often pinging the mods and owners.

Out of india thread is locked for cleanup, whatever that means.

could also happen to other threads in non burqa forums, depending on if it has potentially problematic content.

If you have special interest in any brf threads - save it.

Gus and Mort are largely correct . Please don’t demand more answers though . In my opinion, those who become mods here will fully understand matters as they run this place and deal with the same issues . As I’d suggested there, thinking like a poster will not get you answers; only dealing with the situation like a mod has to do, will.

Probably my only post on this thread

In a way, we lost our home. Now on streets.

We need to control ourselves a little. Seriously no infighting. We had learnt enough life lessons from our history.

The reasons have already been mentioned . Its posters who are unwilling to understand, or simply insist there’s a single juicy conspiracy that’s been kept from them . Sorry to disappoint you but that’s not how BRF moderation work happens. I’m sure whoever moderates this place will understand the matter as they actually do the work themselves .

No problem Mort . At least you understand . I just wish quite a few other people here would stop being clueless about ‘reasons’ . The reasons are right in front of them - you CANNOT talk with complete lack of self moderation about important matters and people like GDF was . People blurting ‘but but free speech’ are quite naive . Mods cautioned many times but collectively no one listened .

This forum in Dileeps capable hands and I do hope people are more careful and mature when speaking about important topics . All I can say is talk like you’re talking in a public place.
