Reports that Kurdish units fled from Sinjar (becoming a tradition). If true then what a humiliation. Iraqi forces haven't even made a move.

BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:40 A.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) High Command announced on Thursday that their forces will be launching an offensive to retake the Idlib Governorate.

According to the statement released by the military command, General Mohammad Khaddour will be leading the operation to retake the Abu Dhuhour Airport in eastern Idlib.

In addition to overseeing the Idlib campaign, General Khaddour will also lead the operations to recapture the town of Abu Dali in northern Hama.

General Khaddour is considered one of the most experienced officers in the Syrian Army; he is also the commander of the elite 3rd Legion.

A military source told Al-Masdar News on Thursday night that this operation will not likely begin for a few weeks, as they still need to secure their main supply route to the Aleppo Governorate.

in other news

- sakr island in dez has been liberated and some inroads made into the surrounded isis remnants camping in city

- suheil al hassan will lead the offensive to liberate al bukamal, his forces are presently clearing the desert area round mayadin

- saa + hezbollah + afghan fatemiyun have surrounded T2 from 3 sides and expected to liberate it soon to open another axis toward al bukamal

- iraqi army have started their final offensive to liberate western anbar and end at Al qaim, which will herald the formal end of isis khaliphate in iraq though insurgency will remain in the vast desert tracts

- two repub guard units have moved from east hama to T2 front as isis pockets in east hama were eliminated

- saa + allies are working to widen the safe corridor to aleppo via salamiyah from jihadi incursions from idlib side by seizing new belt of territory

- stalemate in damascus fronts like jobar and east and west ghouta continues as faylaq al rahman and jaish al islam continue to foil numerous SAA efforts to conquer these areas - their sources of intel, weapons , food, miraculous ability to build tunnel networks remain mysterious. obviously powerful players want them around as pressure point on damascus region.

a iranian + hezbollah led initiative to seize the western countryside of aleppo (which was lost to powerful jihadi attacks in the past) is in planning stages for end of the year. this was long delayed by many other more pressing matters and russian insistence to attend to them first.

this includes a belt of territory incl famous places like khan touman , mansoura, anadan currently under nusra HTS control and riddled with strongpoints and tunnels.

it is unclear if russis will agree to support this.

on kurdistan front it is free for all...
kurds want referendum result (in their favour that is Kurdistan) frozen but not dissolved.
Iraqis (personally spoken to some of them) are furious with Kurds and calling them backstabbers. It seems there was some agreement Kurds will keep quiet till war on IS is over but Kurds have made a move.
Iraqi pm doesn;t want to secede an inch of land. Most of the lands kurds are asking for is oil rich.
At the same time Iran & Turks are also annoyed. Hezbollah is fighting hand in hand with Iraqi army against Kurds.
There seems to be some method in madness re why long back US placed Kurds group into terror ones. At the same time some Kurd groups like SDF are patronised by US. Seems like good kurd vs bad kurd....

>>Hezbollah is fighting hand in hand with Iraqi army against Kurds.

these would be the kataib hezbollah affiliate of the more capable lebanese hezbollah. they are part of the PMU umbrella and indeed did thrash some kurds who tried to resist the takeover of kirkuk recently. kirkuk sits on a huge oil basin.

meantime the ISIS allied tribes who were squatting on al-omar oil basin the largest in syria east of mayadin, executed a deft 180' reflagging op, joined the SDF and overnight are now US supported "democratic freedom fighters" under nato air cover. they did this just as the SAA+ entered mayadin.

will be fun to see what the nato does with the rump rojava, rump kurdistan and rump sunni tribal bantustan east of the euphrates. perhaps prop up all 3 to balance things

not to be left behind , bunches of nato flagged "freedom fighters" are also preparing to invade al bukamal from the east.

syrians are bringing in reinforcements to mayadin for the push down to al bukamal and also developing a thrust from the west via the liberated T2 pump station. both these prongs will converge on al bukamal and spurs will clear the border and meet with iraqi forces.
